Cockatoo in Sunglasses Hand-Carved Leather Bag Charm
This charm starts as a flat piece of undyed veg-tan leather and gets carved by hand until the cockatoo stands off the surface — crest, beak and every feather cut and shaded one at a time. The relief is packed from behind so the oval domes slightly, then the bird is painted by hand in cream and blush, with a pair of round sunglasses over the eyes. A short leather tab and a nickel-tone swivel hook let it clip onto a bag, a backpack strap or a set of keys.

- Leather: undyed vegetable-tanned cowhide (tooling leather), left natural so it deepens in tone with sun and handling
- Front: hand-carved relief, hand-painted — cream and blush plumage, coral tones through the crest and around the eye, dark beak, copper-rimmed round sunglasses with peach lenses
- Back: plain veg-tan, solid. This is a charm, not a pouch — no pocket, no zip, no compartment
- Stitching and edges: saddle-stitched by hand all the way around in beige thread; edges sanded and burnished
- Hardware: nickel-tone swivel snap hook on a short leather tab, set with one small rivet
- Size (approx., estimated against a hand in the photos): oval about 9 x 7 cm (3.5 x 2.8 in), about 1 cm (0.4 in) thick at the highest point of the carving, about 12 cm (4.7 in) overall including tab and hook

- Made to order: each one is carved and painted from scratch, so feather detail and paint vary slightly from the photos
The carving is the slow part: the shading comes from a swivel knife and stamps, not from a print, so no two pieces finish exactly alike. We are a small workshop in Vietnam and one pair of hands cuts, carves, paints and stitches each charm from start to finish.
